Living Water Comes from Jesus

Christ Triumphant - A Devotional by E.G. White

Living Water Comes from Jesus
Today's Text:
There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. John 4:7
The Message:

Consider how circumstances that occur bring truth before the minds of others. Call to mind the woman of Samaria who came, as was her usual custom, to draw water. A stranger sitting on the well asks her for a drink. A conversation begins. Jesus says to her, "If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.""Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."

Remembering the weary work that she had to repeat day after day, and thinking what an advantage it would be if she could have water without all this trouble, the woman said, "Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw." She did not realize that Jesus was presenting to her the soul's highest interest, the water of life.

The words spoken by Christ were the living water. But she soon became so interested that she left her water pot and, going into the city, bore the words to her countrymen, "Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?"

The woman had come for water, and she heard of the water of life. She had been convinced of sin, and believed on Jesus Christ. Thus the holy oil is emptied, by the holy messengers represented by the two olive trees, into the golden tubes and from thence into the golden bowls. The emptying process goes on, from the receiving of the golden oil to the communicating of the same to others. Words are spoken; the unconscious influences that surround the soul are felt, although no words are designedly spoken. A word may be often spoken that will be as seed sown....

The Lord has made ample provision that the heavenly graces shall be abundantly supplied to all, that the truth as it is in Jesus shall hold the first place in the heart and shall ever occupy the soul temple. Then there will be thorough devotion to God, and all true believers will become fishers of men. They will pray for wisdom, and will walk in accordance with the prayer: "Ye are the light of the world." "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."-Letter 48, 1897.
Commentary:

My friend, the living water that Jesus spoke of is the gift of His Spirit in our lives.  If we would learn of Jesus, accepted Him into our hearts, our lives will be changed, and we will want to share Him with all those with whom we come into contact with.  The life of a true follower of Christ is felt by all those who come into contact with them.  They are as a spring of living water in a dry and thirsty land.

There are many professed followers of Christ today, but not all are springs of living water.  It is only by the Spirit of Christ living within, that we may become channels of living water.  Sadly today the Spirit of Christ has been supplanted by a spirit that is not from above.  The doctrine of the trinity robs God of His connection with His people by introducing a counterfeit spirit, one that is not the Father nor the Son, but is the spirit of another being, while the Scriptures declare that there is but one Spirit.  "There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." (Ephesians 4:4-6).

According to the Scriptures the Holy Spirit is not the spirit of another being, but is the omnipresent Spirit of God Himself, and He shares His Spirit with His Son.  Romans 8:9 shows this saying "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."  "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." (John 14:10).

The plain truth of the Bible is that Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, connects us with the Father "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" (1 Timothy 2:5), and it is by this connection that we receive eternal life.  "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3).  The trinity separates us from the Father by introducing an altogether different being called "God the Holy Spirit", who is not the Father nor the Son.  Unless we are connected to the Spirit of God through His Son, we cannot become channels of living water.

The trinity is a false image of God; a counterfeit that is designed to make us think that we are connected with God, but are not.  It has all the outward show of being God, but it cannot save us.  "Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away" (2 Timothy 3:5).

The condition of the church today is such that they think that they have the righteousness of Christ, but in fact they do not, for Christ says "...and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see." (Revelation 3:17, 18).  The trinity is a false representation of God and as such gives to the people of God a counterfeit righteousness which cannot give them victory over sin and cannot save them.

My friend, it is time for us to look away from the false doctrine of the trinity and look unto Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man.  The only one that can save us.

May you look unto God through His Son Jesus Christ today.

God bless,
