We Are To Be Washed In The Great Fountain

Christ Triumphant - A Devotional by E.G. White

We Are To Be Washed In The Great Fountain
Today's Text:
Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? John 13:6
The Message:

When Peter's turn came, he was unable to restrain himself and exclaimed with astonishment, "Lord, dost thou wash my feet?"...

Calmly Jesus replied, "What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter." Feeling keenly the humiliation of his Lord, and filled with love and reverence for Him, Peter with great emphasis exclaimed, "Thou shalt never wash my feet."

Solemnly Jesus said to Peter, "If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me."

A ray of light penetrated the mind of the disciple. He saw that the service that he refused was the type of a higher cleansing-the spiritual cleansing of mind and heart. He could not endure the thought of separation from Christ; that would have been death. "Not my feet only," he said, "but also my hands and my head."

"Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit."...

Every person who came from the bath was clean, but the sandaled feet soon became dusty and again needed to be washed. So Peter and his brethren had been washed in the great fountain opened for sin and uncleanness. Christ acknowledged them as His. But temptation had led them into evil, and they still needed His cleansing grace. When Jesus girded Himself with a towel to wash the dust from their feet, He desired by this very act to wash the alienation, jealousy, and pride from their hearts. This was of far more consequence than the washing of their dusty feet. With the spirit they had then, not one of them was prepared ... to partake of the Paschal supper or to share in the memorial service that Christ was about to institute. Their hearts must be cleansed. Pride and self-seeking create dissension and hatred, but all this Jesus washed away in washing their feet.

A change of feeling was brought about. Looking upon them, Jesus could say, "Ye are clean." Now there was union of heart, love for one another. They had become humble and teachable. Except Judas, each one was ready to concede to another the highest place....

Before the emblems of Christ's broken body and shed blood are partaken of, every difference existing between brother and brother is to be removed.... We are to seek for a preparation to sit with Christ in His kingdom.-Manuscript 106, 1903.

Commentary:

My friend, the hearts of the disciples were not ready to receive the emblems of salvation that Jesus desired to impart to them.  Their preconceived beliefs of the Messiah's mission led them to desire the highest position on the kingdom that they believed He was soon to setup.  Each was jockeying for position in that kingdom, and their hearts were unprepared for what was to come.

Satan had so darkened the minds of the Jewish people that they could not recognize the promised Messiah.  Though the disciples believed that Jesus was the Messiah, they did not understand His mission nor the principals of the kingdom of God.  The same is true of the remnant church today.  Through the doctrine of the trinity, the minds of the people have been clouded as to the true nature of God, and have been led to receive a false righteousness.  Through their worship of God in the form of the trinity, they are looking unto a false god and as such are receiving its unholy impress upon their hearts.

Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6), while the trinity introduces another way unto salvation.  It teaches that it is by the Holy Spirit, who is not the Father nor the Son, is how we are connected with the Father.  The Bible is very clear saying "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;" (1 Timothy 2:5).

The trinity by claiming that the Holy Spirit is not the Father nor the Son, has introduced to the church another mediator between God and man, and as such the hearts and minds of the remnant church of God have been darkened by its influence.  The trinity on the outside looks like God, but in reality is not.  Thus the people have a form of godliness, but it lacks the power of God to transform the heart.

My friend, if we are to be saved we must be connected to the One true God through our Lord Jesus Christ, for Jesus prayed to His Father saying "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3).  God is not a triune God, but One, and we come into a knowledge of Him by His only begotten Son.

May you receive the cleansing of God through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ today.

God bless,

The Controversy Between Christ and Satan is Ended

Christ Triumphant - A Devotional by E.G. White The Controversy Between Christ and Satan is Ended Today's Text: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4 The Message:      The wicked receive their recompense in the earth. [Proverbs 11:31] . They "shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts."  Malachi 4:1 . Some are destroyed as in a moment, while others suffer many days. All are punished "according to their deeds." The sins of the righteous having been transferred to Satan, he is made to suffer not only for his own rebellion, but for all the sins that he has caused God's people to commit...

The Book of Daniel Now Unsealed for Study

Christ Triumphant - A Devotional by E.G. White Book of Daniel Now Unsealed for Study Today's Text: But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Daniel 12:4 The Message:      There is need of a much closer study of the Word of God; especially should Daniel and the Revelation have attention as never before in the history of our work. We may have less to say in some lines, in regard to the Roman power and the papacy, but we should call attention to what the prophets and apostles have written under the inspiration of the Spirit of God.  The Holy Spirit has so shaped matters, both in the giving of the prophecy and in the events portrayed, as to teach that the human agent is to be kept out of sight, hid in Christ, and the Lord God of heaven ...

Christ is Knocking at Your Hearts Door

Christ Triumphant - A Devotional by E.G. White Christ is Knocking at Your Hearts Door Today's Text: But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Hebrews 2:9 The Message:      The stress of great temptation is already upon us. We are now to unite with one another in doing medical missionary work, even the work that Christ did when on this earth. We are to be one in Christ. Thus we show our faithfulness to God, to our Redeemer, and to all who are born into His kingdom.  Among the people of God there is to be no dissension, no controversy, no warfare against one another. The forces of righteousness are to be a unit in their conflict with evil. All the strength of God's...
